- got over 100% (there was a bonus question) on my PIFE midterm that I was worried about (only 4 of us did this, oh ya)

- missed Jason A LOT
- wished my puppy was here, honey can you and Troop come live in VA?
- went to an EMU intramural football game
- will be attending a Halloween party

- watched the movie "Zombieland", although stupid premise it was funny at times
- realized that I have a big spot in my heart for sex offenders and that others don't usually share this view
- learned about cognitive behavioral theory
- Trooper is now in a kennel all day long and he seems to be loving it
- haven't spent too much time alone, thankfully
- have been really tired, but have been feeling good
- heard about practicum for next semester?!?!?! I have to have a minimal of 40 hours (or 40 sessions) of direct one on one contact with clients next semester...ahhhhhhhhh
- booked my plane ticket for Christmas....Dec. 19 I'll be back home, 7 more weeks baby!
- realized that role playing in a client/counselor role with one of your close buddies is difficult
- laughed a lot
- registered for my spring semester courses
- joined the American Counselor Association (ACA)....I feel so grown up :)
- have been missing Him, but am realizing that He's still there

Love this....
Mandi or Mel....how do I get the freaking video to be on my blog so that it's not the link? I'm so inexperienced at this!
This moment....

this= stumbling towards what I think is light, but I have so much unwanted confusion, thoughts, and images flooding my mind that it makes me want to sit down, hide my face and block my ears.
I will not though...I will not give up, not now...not after all of this. It's that determination, that hope of knowing that this too shall pass, that keeps me pushing forward.
I love this picture... I imagine my face behind that candle. It's the only thing that makes me want to come out of the darkness because, in the end, I know it will be okay. It illuminates me unlike anything else. I feel the warmth of the glow of unconditional love on my face and I see the truth in it.

Good times....
So Christian and Trev have just started doing this snake thing all the time.....don't ask their from LA so they are just weird :) I'm laughing here because I just wasn't expecting it to happen in this pic. The other guy in this picture is Tom, he is also one of my classmates. He and his wife are planning a trip to PEI this summer. So they are going to come and visit me in NB!!! This makes me happy because someone will get a glimpse of my life back home. Oh FYI honey....I haven't told you about that yet!
I love, love , love this girl! How hot are we? :) Oh Mandi, Erica is probably going to get engaged any time now and I'm totally trying to convince her to do the Chris Brown song thing at her wedding!!! I've still got loads of convincing to do, she loved it but doesn't think she'd have the guts to do it.
Left to right: David's wife Shelly, (the rest of these gals are my classmates) Jennifer, me, Ellen, Erica, and Kristee
I'm only posting this because this picture makes me laugh every time I see it. I have no idea what either of us are doing here. I was supposed to be looking at the camera I thought and Trev couldn't shut up long enough to take a picture apparently. Someone was a little intoxicated and it was not me :)
I'm off to the coffee shop to get some work done. Hope everyone is doing well!

Week 8 realizations.....
- chicken is way cheaper down here.... I got 5 boneless skinless chicken breasts for $4.10 yesterday and that's not a sale price
- telling your spiritual journey to a random group of people can be scary and humbling all at the same time
- midterms aren't just tests in grad school
- emailing the prof a suggestion can turn into a good idea and then you'll need to speak on the topic in class the next day...guess who introduced the class to DID? :)
- loving Mario Party on the Wii
- been invited to 2 Halloween parties
- having patience issues with some in my class and my roommate
- leaves are changing on the mountains and it's beautiful
- Dulles airport is ridiculously busy and confusing
- meeting with my advisor opened my eyes to a lot of things
- a trip home re energized me so much....these next few weeks will be a lot easier because of it
- I am a very passionate person and I'm learning to embrace that
- 8 for 8 with crying in Techniques...sheesh
- will I ever not fight crying?
- looking forward to counseling tomorrow
- I have a lot of work to do....editor in chief watch out
- I have something planned each night for the next four nights all with different people.... YAY for friends!
- don't let things sit, just address them and you'll feel so much better
- the worst realization of my week.....the 3 hour midterm is only worth 10% of my mark... COME ON! I'm quite bitter about this midterm aren't I? However this may be the best realization depending on what my mark is :)

WOAH......

This is a show on Showtime called The United States of Tara. It's about a mom (played by Toni Colette....love her) who has DID. Can I just tell you I had the biggest smile on my face watching this show. I was actually able to see what was coming next. It was so cool! I have such a HUGE passion for DID and I just know I'm going to be working with people who have been BLESSED by this wonderful coping mechanism. Anyways, I could go on and on but I need to get ready for tomorrow. I know some of you are going to be interested in seeing this so I'll keep my fingers crossed that you can find a website to watch it on there. I was able to watch the first episode here http://www.sho.com/site/order/preview.do#/US_Tara_s01_e01 hopefully that link will work for you.
AHHHHH I love my heart and the joy these moments bring me. I have tears in my eyes right now and I'm so thankful to be handed this precious gift of getting my Masters in Counselling so that I can attend to others in an authentic, empathetic, trusting way!!!!!
High and low.....
Negative about today: MY MIDTERM....that's right I said MIDTERM.... WAS FREAKING 3 HOURS LONG! Is that not insane? Arghhhh I'm freaking drained right now. My "A" streak may be over. I'll let you all know when I get it back, yes even if it's not a "A" :)
Although I'm tired I've got more work to do for tomorrow. Normally I just relax on Wed nights. However, spending time with Jason this weekend was important so some things got bumped. Good thing I get to type those assignments though. My poor hand cannot write anymore today!
Thank you all for your well wishes about my midterm..... I was a little stressed!
October 20, 2009
Quick post....
I'm a little stressed right now so I don't have a lot of time. I'm just getting back to VA, it's been a long day, and I have a midterm tomorrow that I need to study for. However, I wanted to let you all know that I made it back safe and sound.
I'm so thankful for the weekend. Although it was short and quick I had loads of fun. Thank you all for your blesses and well wishes. Getting to see everyone, going to MY church, laughing, playing games, SEEING JASON, squeezing that cuddly puppy, etc, etc, etc, has given me the strength to go on for another 8 weeks. Hopefully before I know it I'll be doing another daily count down!
Now on to study professional identity, function and ethics..... I think I'm going to need some strong tea for this one......
October 13, 2009
3 days....
I'm feeling really stressed right now so I'm going to be mean and not put up a pic. I'm running out of time to get all my school work done. I've been working really hard because I don't want to do a single thing when I'm home this weekend. I'm almost at that place. Plus I have to go out this afternoon and get some final supplies to bring back with me (Deb I've looked every where for those candies and have not found them....maybe at CHristmas time). Someone has put in an order for a coat for Trooper :)
I do however want to post this quote. I'm not usually one for quotes but I love this one. I pretty much love anything and everything to do with counseling right now because that's my life and I'm freaking pumped about it!
October 12, 2009
4 days....
ha ha this was Jason's reaction when he got to the top of the escalator at the PGA Pro Shop in St. Augustine, Florida. Can you believe that we actually left there without buying anything?

5 days....
(Christian and Erica)(Kurt---the Canadian---Nathan, Eli and April)
Since I've focused on Erica and Christian before let's talk about April and Kurt. I've only known these guys for 4 weeks now but I have been at there house every week for those 4 weeks. Being at their house reminds me of when I'm at Mandi and Greg's (except I haven't hit the upstairs bathroom yet...ha ha ha). I feel so comfortable there. April and I cook and chat. The kids are wonderful. Nathan is special needs and melts my heart and Eli. Ha ha ha oh Eli. She is a diva with a capital D. I love it. She so reminds me of Katie when she was younger. Oh and another favorite thing at their house for me is this guy....
Miles greets me in the driveway every time I come. I love him and he loves me. I snuck him some turkey tonight so we'll be best buds forever :) He has one fang that's longer than the other and hangs out of his mouth. It's really cute but you've got to watch it when you're petting him. He gets so into it and starts rubbing his head all over you not realizing that the freaky fang can slice you open.
The other nuts thing is that Kurt and Jason are wayyyyyy too much alike. Since Kurt has been married longer he has all the things that Jason is still begging me for. Like a truck for example. Kurt just got a brand new truck and it just happens to be the same one Jason wants. I told Kurt this the first time I went over. So EVERY time I go over now guess who has a new reason for why I should let Jason get a truck? Yup you got it Mr. Kurt. It's like having a piece of Jason right here in VA :) Today we need a truck so that we can haul folding tables and chairs from the church for our big Thanksgiving get together. I told him that 1. I would never have that many people to my house for a meal and 2. I don't go to a church that has folding tables and chairs that I would need to put in a truck. Doesn't matter though, he'll have something else for the next time I go over.Anyways, although I wasn't home for Thanksgiving it was a blast. I'm tired and stuffed to the max but it was so worth it. The warmth and love I felt tonight helped me make it through another day in this sometimes difficult, lonely journey. I'm so thankful to them for blessing me with their home and love. I went to their church for the first time today as well and it was the first time since I've been here that I really connected with God in a church environment. I have soooo missed that. So needless to say I'll be back. Anyways here are a couple more pics from tonight....
October 10, 2009
6 days....
I had a blast today. April and I worked in the kitchen for 6 hours straight. It was so fun. Friends she is just like me, loves to cook and bake. So her kitchen is well stocked with all of the gadgets I would need to make my creations. I made a triple batch of sweet potato casserole, triple batch of green been casserole, double recipe of pumpkin cake with cream cheese icing, and double recipe of apple cake (which looks like it turned out wonderfully...if it tastes as good as it looks I'll post the recipe so that those of you who have way too many apples right now can bake away...yes Mandi even you could make this recipe). April peeled 20 lbs of potatoes, 10lbs of carrots, put the turkey in a brine mixture (this was interesting and I can't wait to try it), a triple batch of stuffing, and a triple batch of cranberry salad (can't wait to try this as well it has cranberries, apples, celery, and other goodies). So tomorrow we're off to church and then back to her house to get everything cooked. She's asked the neighbour if we can use her oven as well thankfully! I'm so excited... can you tell that I REALLY needed this in my life? Her husband was great at keeping the kids busy and felt bad for us, so he treated us to supper at a brewery downtown where they even make their own root beer. It was delicious!
Anyways, I'm off to bed shortly for my busy day tomorrow. Before i do though here's my pic of the day...

Big boy haircut....

I loved Troop's colors in his coat. However I knew someday we would loose them because they were his puppy hair. Although the shaggy coat was so cute, Jason and I decided to get rid of it. Snow and shaggy hair on dogs equals frustration with a capital F. My little guy is growing up :( I think I need to call the breeder and ask if she plans on breeding Troop's parents again. Honey are you up for that challenge? ha ha ha (oh and now I understand all you crazy women who always want another baby....sorry to compare your another baby to my puppy but that's my life).

Week 6 happenings....
- not interested in Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT)
- waking up randomly at 5:30 and not being able to get back to sleep makes for a really long day
- I LOVE my counselor!!!!
- got an email that I need to start thinking about practicum for next semester?!?!?!
- need to look into joining Canandian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association and/or American Counseling Association
- need to find inexpensive ways to have fun with friends
- am thankful for my life here right now (if we could just figure out a way that Jason could live here and work I'd be all set)
- feeling sad that one of the residents from the home passed away :(
- am getting used to, and loving, weekly counseling sessions
- had my first intense empathetic experience with someone I barely knew, it was exhausting and wonderfully beautiful all at the same time....ahhh I'm getting teary just thinking about it
- only 10 more weeks to go in this semester...see baby this is going to go by quick!
- this time next weekend I'll be on my way home, now I'm crying
- spring break is huge down here....how do the college students afford it?
- guava yogurt is really good
- don't read about medical concerns on the internet because you'll freak yourself out
- I made Hamburger Helper for the first time in many many years and it was so good
- Costco here is way better than Costco at home however I don't need that much food here, I need it home.....arghhhhhh
- April (don't have pics of her yet) and I are making Thanksgiving supper for 25 people this weekend...I'm so excited...it's been way too long since I cooked and baked (her husband is Canadian so that's why we're celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving because Thanksgiving here isn't until the end of Nov.), she bought everything and I'm going to help
- went to a Mennonite Relief sale....so much yummy food! Basically everything everyone makes gets donated to Mennonite organizations like MCC...I have heard about these so much and it was very fun to finally get to go to one
- got another A on a paper, got an A on my case study report, and got 73/75 on my Psychopathology Midterm (so yes that's another A) folks I am rocking grad school :) ha ha ha
9 days.....
April 3, 2008 Jason's first time ever going to Walt Disney World and Florida!

Interview observations...
- hearing yourself on tape is weird
- watching yourself on tape is even weirder ("oh my gosh why did I just do that" where some thoughts running through my mind)
- I hate typing out verbatim, so frustrating
- 15 minutes of tape time=5 and a half pages single spaced
- not looking forward to going through it again and writing about all the non-verbal things
- I may have this segment memorized by the time I'm done
- people insert "like" a lot when they're talking
- I freaking talk fast! I know some of you are laughing right now but holy crap... I had to stop and rewind so much when I was talking because I was cramming so much into 5 seconds of tape (you know kind of like this sentence). It was insane. So for all of you out there who I have seen get the confused look on your face when I'm talking because I lost you 20 words ago...I get it!
- after verbatim, then analysis on body language, then I have to write about my personal thoughts I was having...just how honest should I be?
- I'm never going to get this assignment done, good thing it's worth 5% of my mark and has already taken me 4 hours and I probably have another 4 to go. Freaking grad school!
- I think I'm a little stressed....good thing I have another counseling session in 2 and a half hours. Apparently I now need counselling on a weekly basis. When I made fun of my counsellor for this he told me, "well Freud used to see his clients 5 days a week, would you like us to do that?". What a smarty pants... I like him though, he's a keeper!
10 more days.....

ha ha ha the look on her face in the pic is probably how she feels all day everyday right now! Who thinks I look young here? I seriously can't tell the difference of myself over these past few years. Weird! Well other than I don't do make-up, spend way too much money on clothes, or dye my hair anymore like I did here. This was taken in spring of 2003. The good old days before I was married.....ha ha SO JUST KIDDING!

Little troublemaker....
Although a lot has changed he is still using the freaking bathroom in the house. Everything that I have researched on Shih tzus says that they can take up to a year to house train. It actually also says that until that point it should be unexpected that he can go for extended periods of time without going to the bathroom because of his underdeveloped system. Makes sense right?
Well what does one do when they take this little bundle of joy for a walk and then he walks right into the house and uses the bathroom on your floor (or worse off bed, sorry aunt Lindsay)? He's a huge delight but he frustrates a lot of people in his life as well.
So those of you that have/had dogs..... any advice? Also after this last stint at aunt Lindsay's I think we may need a new babysitter for when Jason goes away again. Any takers :) ha ha ha not after what I just wrote huh?
U2 concert.....
The opening act was Muse. I really liked them. They certainly had a unique sound. After that, U2 came out and played for 3 hours!!! They did 2 encores as well. So it was a late night but well worth it. Bono also got us to send love over seas. It was so powerful. Everyone in the whole stadium was singing "Walk On" with their hands in the air. Yes, I cried :) They sang a few songs I didn't recognize but for the most part I was able to sing along.
Bono also did a solo of "Amazing Grace", so good! Hmmmm I think that's about it. I obviously can't type enough to tell you how wonderful of an experience it was. I'm very thankful that I found out about this and that we were able to pull it together in a week. It wasn't even sold out. That was so weird to me. Enough of my rants....here are some of Tara's pics.....
October 3, 2009
Silly, silly American.....
Canadian: smiles thinking it's a joke
American: "See I know more about Canada than you thought, I know the anthem."
Canadian: "Are you freaking kidding me? That's the Christmas song 'Oh Christmas Tree' you dumbass."
American: (laughs hysterically) "Oh whoops!"
*** that's right this actually happened to me last night, I need new friends :) ***

Lessons from week 5.....
- counselling, even after 5 years of going, is still very necessary in one's life
- pay attention where you're walking when you're talking (poor Christian walked right into.. like leg on each side....of one of those cables with the yellow plastic thing that come down from the poles onto the sidewalk....he was a hurting unit....Erica and I laughed way too hard though, how supportive of us)
- when people annoy you don't snap back or you'll feel like a douche and need to apologize
- try not to smile too big when the prof has picked something you wrote to read to the class to prove his point
- crying in techniques is just going to happen so suck it up and get used to it
- concerts in Virginia are outdoors in October
- choosing not to run to help mode for everyone in my life is becoming a tinsy bit easier
- when all else fails just reach up
- instead of trying everything else just reach up initially
- football fields are massive, outdoor structures
- there is nothing too special about driving in a BMW, but it makes you feel important especially when you're rocking some California license plates
- Charlottesville is a bigger city than I thought
- Chipotle (Mexican fast food restaurant) needs to be visited more often
- people do care
- oatmeal isn't that bad
- no one has it all together, ever
- doing what you're being asked to, although difficult, is so rewarding
- calling people crying is okay
- going home in 2 weeks can feel like forever
- incorporating client-focused theory and gestalt theory is perhaps becoming a necessary
- home will always be home and your heart will always be there
- making close connections with others is so necessary however thinking of leaving them in 2 years makes you want to hold back
- keeping your mouth shut and just being an attentive, deliberate listener is hard
- Bono still rocks (more to come on the concert later when I get some pics from those who were with me)
October 1, 2009
Next day.....
Oh and guess what???? U2 tonight!!!!!!! Woo hooo...... we're headed there right after class today. Sounds like it's going to be insane in Charlottesville. I wish I could bring my camera in but I'm not allowed :( I'm going to try to take pics with my cell though. Crappy thing is that I didn't bring the cord for that....sheesh I'm a bag blogger :) Just Utube it.....
Off to class I go......time to go cry in techniques!
